Under the guidance of first year head coach Joel Cutler, the 2014 Upper Arlington Golden Bears looked to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2011. Led by third-year starting QB Kyle Kaparos the Golden Bears got off to quick a 3-1 start, outscoring opponents 139-15 in their first three wins. Growing pains would get the best of UA in a three game losing streak in the middle of the season but they would finish strong to close the year with a 5-5 record in Cutler’s first season. The strong will and toughness that characterized the 2014 Golden Bears was on display in the regular season final against state powerhouse Coffman. Upper Arlington was able to erase a 14 point deficit in the 4th quarter and fell just inches short of a victory on a failed two point conversion late in the game. The 20-19 loss to Coffman is a game that will be remembered and define the 2014 Upper Arlington Golden Bears.
