Westerville Central Knocks Out Newark, 5-0, in District Final

Newark's impressive playoff run was shut down by Gavin Lyon (Ohio State commit) and the top-seeded Warhawks in a 5-0 loss in the District Final. Despite scoring 28 runs in their previous 3 playoff contests, the 23rd-seeded 'Cats couldn't find the gaps, mustering just 1 hit and 1 walk against Lyon. Newark held the high-scoring 'Hawks to 1 run after 3 innings but couldn't keep them at bay much longer as Westerville Central slowly built up the lead. The loss marks the end of Newark's cinderella run through the D-I Central District where they toppled the #6 and #14 seeds.
Shackleford, Mye Lead 'Cats to 5-4 Win Over Marysville

It took 12 innings, but Newark's cinderella run through the playoffs continued with a 5-4 win over Marysville in the District Semis. Darius Shackleford's 2-run home run got the 'Cats started in the 2nd inning. After Marysville tied things up in the 5th, both teams were unable to plate a runner over the next 6 innings until a Zach Dickson bunt brought home Dillon Coventry in the top of the 12th. Josh Gant had an RBI-single to pad the lead as Shackleford held off the Monarchs in the bottom half for the win. Trevor Mye threw 9 strikeouts over 10 innings for Newark. The 'Cats (#23) advance to the District Final on Wednesday at Otterbein to face #1 Westerville Central for a trip to Regionals.
Newark Smacks Orange 12-2 to Advance to District Semis

Newark's offense was in high gear in a 12-2 rout of #6 Orange over 6 innings. The 23-seeded 'Cats posted the biggest seed upset of the D-I playoffs so far but Newark hardly played like an underdog. The 'Cats bats abused the Pioneer pitchers to the tune of 11 hits while senior pitcher Trevor Mye allowed just 3 hits in a complete game win. Seniors Julian Williams and Darius Shackleford led the offense with 3 RBIs each while junior Nate Munyan knocked in 2. Newark advances to the District Semifinals where they'll play #14 Marysville at 5 pm Monday at Grove City HS.
Newark Finishes Regular Season with 3-2 Win on Senior Night

Newark defeated New Albany 3-2 to bring home the win on Senior Night. Newark led 2-1 until the sixth when the Eagles singled in a run to tie the game at 2-2. In the bottom of the seventh with the score tied, New Albany walked three consecutive batters to load the bases then walked the fourth batter of the inning to give the Wildcats the 3-2 win. Newark ends the regular season 12-14.
Gales Outslug 'Cats, 11-10

Newark’s comeback fell just short as the Wildcats lost to Lancaster 11-10. The Gales jumped on the ‘Cats early, taking a 10-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings. Newark stormed back to tie it after scoring 5 runs in both the 3rd and 4th innings led by Zach Dickson and Nate Munyan. Lancaster snagged a 1-run lead in the top of the 6th, putting them up 11-10. With two outs in the bottom of the 7th and a runner on 3rd, Dickson ripped a ball to the outfield where the Gales’ center fielder made a diving catch to take away Newark’s chance at a comeback.
