With five first place votes in the latest Associated Press poll released Monday, unbeaten Olentangy has fans talking more than ever. The Braves remained 2nd in the new Division II poll following a 54-21 drubbing of Worthington Kilbourne in week eight. They trail top ranked Perrysburg by only 36 voter points. A win this week at Mt. Vernon locks up the OCC-Capital Division outright title.
Across town in Division I, high-powered Dublin Coffman is still ranked 4th despite a 48-7 win over visiting Westland. The Rocks garnered two first-place votes, while 3rd ranked Huber Heights Wayne accounted for three first place votes.
OCC-Cardinal Division co-leader Westerville Central is up a spot to 7th in D-I. The undefeated Warhawks slipped by rival Westerville South last week 45-32. Olentangy Liberty (7-1) is ranked 12th. Mentor is the number one team in the big school division.
In Division III, Tri-Valley (8-0) climbed a spot to 5th in the poll. The Dawgs contained Sheridan last week 34-0, as their defense continued to be unbreakable. In fact, the three-time defending MVL champions lead the state (regardless of division) in points allowed, only giving up 27 through eight games.
In Division IV, MVL co-leader Maysville is still building on its best start in school history. The Panthers (8-0) moved three spots in the poll to 6th after convincingly beating John Glenn 35-6. Maysville and Tri-Valley meet in Dresden this week in a battle of the unbeatens.
