Newark Surges Past Pickerington Central in OT Thriller
In a comeback thriller, Newark topped State-Ranked Pickerington Central (#10 in AP), 66-63, in Overtime. The win puts Newark (15-3, 9-2) tied atop the OCC-Ohio with Pickerington Central (14-4, 9-2). Down by as much as 11 in the 3rd quarter and 7 in the 4th, Junior standout Jordan Dartis and the 'Cats Senior leadership willed the team back. Newark started hot, leading Pick Central 15-8 at the end of the 1st. But the 'Cats went cold shooting and the Tigers got hot with a 17-6 advantage in the 2nd. Behind Dartis' 33 points and the team's strong effort on the boards in the 2nd half, Newark made an incredible comeback and even led with seconds remaining in regulation. A late Tigers' basket sent the game to OT but it never came together for the Purple and White in the extra minutes while Newark made the big buckets and important Free Throws when needed to get the win. The Tigers were also without Ohio State recruit Jae'Sean Tate for the game due to injury.
