The 2017 edition of Newark was easily one of the most exciting teams in the state and showed why they're a crew to remember with a long list of accomplishments. Kent State commit BJ Duling wowed fans with high-flying dunks and 19 points per game. The team was consistently ranked in the Top 10, finished unblemished in league play on their way to a league title and a 24-2 record.
Pickerington North Shocks Newark, Wins 59-58

In a game for the ages, Pickerington North stunned Newark, beating the Wildcats, 59-58! The two teams were in a dogfight all night with neither squad having a lead bigger than 4 points in the 2nd half, but behind Matthew Lanier's 3-pointer with time expiring the Panthers secured their first District Title in school history. Newark finishes the season with a 24-2 record and Pick North will play Upper Arlington in a Regional Semifinal next.
Newark Handles Liberty, 78-60

Newark handled Liberty 78-60 to advance to the Division I district final! The Patriots hit 11 three pointers in the game, but could never close the gap. BJ Duling's 27 points led the #2 Wildcats with Justin Carter and JT Shumate both adding 14. Newark advances to face #9 Pickerington North in the district final.
Newark Makes Quick Work of Whetstone, 84-36

Newark (#2) opened tourney play in dominant fashion with an 84-36 win over Whetstone (#43). A balanced scoring attack saw three 'Cats score in double-figures led by JT Shumate's 14 points. Senior Hunter Dennison played exceptionally well as he knocked down three 3's in the first half and racked up 6 steals. The 22-1 Wildcats play one more at home with Columbus West (#46) coming to Jim Allen Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 28th.
Newark Claims OCC-Capital Title with 66-47 Win at Groveport

Newark took to Groveport and put down the Cruisers, 66-47, behind JT Shumate's 26-point effort. A career-high for Shumate came at the right time as his big night helped the 'Cats earn the OCC-Capital title outright. The win puts Newark at an impressive 20-1 as they take the #2 seed in the Central District in the D-I Tournament.
