Philo Basketball 2014: DVD Trailer August 4, 2014 The Philo Electrics Basketball program was building up to this season. Expectations were understandably high in Duncan Falls for the most Senior-laden squad of any in the area. With 8 of 11 roster spots being occupied by the Class of 2014, leadership and poise under pressure was not hard to come by. While an MVL Championship was ultimately not in the cards for this group, exciting moments were in spades. Highlighting the 2013-14 Philo Electrics season included moments such as: an early season defeat of rival and Elite 8 team John Glenn, Senior Chase Hambel notching 1,000 career points, the team's first tournament win since 2011, and perhaps the team's most intense and exciting tournament game since the 1999 State Championship Game; a 2-OT thriller against Steubenville. The brotherhood was clear with this group and it's safe to say that the Class of 2014 Philo Basketball will be dearly missed and have set the bar high for this new generation of Electrics. DI-II All-Ohio Basketball Announced; ZHS Senior McFarland Headlines List March 17, 2014 The Associated Press announced its annual All-Ohio teams for boys basketball and players from Zanesville, Newark, Tri-Valley, John Glenn, and Philo all made the cut. [read more]

Philo Loses Double OT Heartbreaker to Steubenville March 3, 2014 Philo (#7) gave Steubenville (#3) an incredible fight but their upset attempt fell just short in double overtime, 71-69. The Big Red led by 8 at half but the Electrics surged to start the 2nd half, taking the lead halfway through the 3rd. Teams swapped leads throughout regulation and both overtimes. Senior Zak Sheridan hit a triple with 17 seconds left in the 2nd OT to tie the game at 69 but a Steubenville fadeaway jumper swished through as the clock nearly struck zero. A last second full-court heave couldn't find the net for Philo as their season came to an end in the Division 2 District Semifinal at Ohio University - Eastern. Senior Chase Hambel led all scorers with 26 and crossed the 1,000 point threshold for his career. The Electrics finish their 2013-14 campaign with a 14-10 record.

Electrics Jolt Beavers in Tourney Opener, Advance to District Semis February 28, 2014 Philo (#7) bounced Beaver (#10) in their tournament opener, 60-55, to move to the District Semifinals vs Steubenville. The Electrics' pressure D produced plenty of turnovers and their quick transition and tempo on offense gave them an early lead. Philo had a 16-10 lead through 1 quarter and while the final score ended up close, the Electrics never really let Beaver fully back into the game. While many Electrics produced big offensively and defensively, it was Senior Tyler Cassady who stole the show for Philo. Cassady filled up the stat sheet accounting for 23 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. Senior Zak Sheridan also contributed in a big way with numerous quick drives to the basket, earning 16 points. Philo plays Steubenville (#3) on Saturday, March 1st at 1 p.m. in a Div. II District Seminfal at Ohio University - Eastern Campus.
