Newark Basketball 2014: DVD Trailer

Hanging with the big boys in the Ohio Capital Conference is tough, but in 2014 Newark found a way lead the pack. Led by junior scoring machine Jordan Dartis, the Wildcats won a share of their second straight OCC-Ohio Division Championship which included wins over the likes of state powers Gahanna Lincoln and Pickerington Central.
Newark's impressive run came to an end with a third straight loss in a the Division I District Championship game. They ended the year with a 20-5 record.

Newark Drops to Dublin Coffman in District Final

It was the prolific 3-point shooting of Dublin Coffman (#9) that headlined the game as Newark's (#5) season came to a close. The 'Cats couldn't hang late and fell 61-50 as 5 players drained triples for the Rocks. 3 Newark seniors saw their careers come to an end but it was the Junior, Jordan Dartis, who was the highlight of the night for the 'Cats, anchoring the team all game long. He had 27 points, 15 of which came from beyond the arc. Newark's Senior trio (Metzen, Russell, and Anderson) finish their careers with two league titles and three district finals appearances. The Wildcats finish their season with a 20-5 overall record.
Wildcats Outlast Raiders, Earn District Finals Berth

Newark defeated league-foe Reynoldsburg for the 3rd time this season and when it mattered most: in the tournament. The 'Cats weathered a rough 3rd quarter to advance to the OHSAA D-1 District Final. After leading 30-19 at half and being up by 13 early in the 3rd, Reynoldsburg stormed back into the game, taking a 44-43 lead into the final quarter. It was the clutch 4th quarter play of Jordan Dartis and the 'Cats Free Throw shooting that ultimately gave them the W. Dartis knocked in 13 of his game-high 20 points in the 4th, 9 of which came at the line. Newark shot 30-37 overall from the charity stripe. Newark (#5) now plays Dublin Coffman (#9) in the District Final on Saturday, March 8th, 10 am at the Fairgrounds Coliseum in Columbus.
Newark Dominant in Tourney Win vs Westland, Dartis Scores 1,000th Career Point

Newark took its 2nd straight tournament victory with ease over visiting Westland, 79-51, to advance to the OHSAA D-1 District Semifinals. The win sent the senior class out in style for the last time on their home court. The 'Cats stormed out of the gate, leading 23-6 at the end of the 1st and had a 19-0 run span the first 2 quarters. Their lead never dipped below 17 the rest of the game. Junior Jordan Dartis recorded his 1,000th career point in the 2nd qtr. He was the spark in the game tallying 20 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Teddy Metzen was a big contributer as usual, grabbing 7 rebounds and scoring 19 including a 2-handed slam dunk midway through the 3rd that sent Jim Allen Gymnasium into an uproar. Newark (#5) will face Reynoldsburg (#15) on Tuesday, March 4th, 7 p.m. at Olentangy Liberty H.S. The 'Cats won both regular season meetings by a combined 8 points.
